If you lost your CRA refund cheque or changed your address due to moving, don’t worry. Government cheques never expire, so the money remains under your name, even if you haven’t cashed it yet.
How to cash an unclaimed cheque:
- Log in to your CRA My Account.
- Navigate to the left-hand sidebar, select “Accounts and payments”, then click on “Uncashed Cheque”.
- Download and complete the relevant form Form PWGSC 535.
- Upload the completed form to CRA My Account – Submit Document.
Important Note:
For the witness section on the form, it’s recommended not to choose someone who shares the same address as you. Recently, CRA has declined witnesses who reside at the same address as the taxpayer. Be cautious about this detail.
